Northern Arizona Countryside DIY Wedding | AZ Wedding Photographer | Sarah & Steve
John and I thought we were lost when we turned onto a 13 mile stretch of bumpy dirt road as we made our way to Sarah and Steve’s wedding. We had already been driving for an hour and a half and we still had another hour and a half to go. We weren’t lost though, of course. We were right on track for Young, Arizona, a small rural town with only two ways to get there, one of which was the dirt road we traveled. We were both laughing the longer we drove down the dirt road, thinking.. Where on earth is this wedding!? Haha! Once we finally made it to Young and set our eyes on the scenery, we unanimously decided that the long trip was definitely worth it! Sarah and Steve, along with their family and friends, put countless hours of work into this beautiful DIY wedding day.. And I’m so excited to share a little peek.
After hearing how they met at Country Thunder and getting to know them during their Mogollon Rim Engagement Session (you should definitely click the link and read their funny story), John and I were so excited that their wedding day had finally arrived!! Sarah and Steve are incredibly easy going, fun people to be around. They were both relaxed and went with the flow throughout their day, soaking in every moment together. Of course, they had done plenty of preparation ahead of time. I mean seriously, Sarah made a binder with very detailed instructions for everyone to follow during setup — which I LOVE — Type A personality over here.. haha!
Sarah and Steve got ready at separate lodges ahead of time, then made their way to the property. They opted for no first look, wanting to save that special moment for Sarah walking down the aisle. Their ceremony overlooked the rolling hills of Young while family and friends gathered around. The moment they officially became husband and wife was beautifully marked with cheers from their loved ones! We took some time for some bride and groom photos before their first dance as husband and wife, and were so excited to celebrate their new marriage with them!
You MUST take a moment to appreciate all of the details of their reception. Their sweetheart table had a handmade backdrop complete with “I have found the one whom my soul loves,” one of my favorite bible verses. Sarah, along with the help of family and friends, made every centerpiece of florals, and created the most appetizing dessert table I’ve seen to date! Steve spent hours working on the set-up for their wedding, which took place on family property. They built the framework for the string lights and backdrops themselves, creating the perfect atmosphere for their celebration.
After dinner, we jumped in a car together and drove to the most beautiful location for bride and groom sunset photos. I felt like we had been temporarily relocated from Arizona to wine country, and I was totally okay with that! Sarah had picked the spot out, and said she knew I would love it.. with its giant trees and gorgeous sunlight, she was definitely right! 🙂 After the sun set behind the hills, we made our way back to their reception, where they would dance and celebrate for hours to come. When I asked Sarah how she knew Steve was the one she wanted to marry, she said “Every turn and bumpy ride wouldn’t be complete if I wasn’t sharing it with him.” I thought that was incredibly fitting, given that bumpy dirt road we traveled on to get to their wedding that day! Enjoy my favorites! 🙂
Sarah & Steve: It has been an absolute joy getting to know you both! I don’t know if you know this, but you guys have a way of leaving people with smiles after they interact with you. You were both so kind to us and fun to work with, and we’re so glad we were able to be there on your wedding day. I can’t wait to see how your marriage will continue to grow!
