Preparing for Bridal Getting Ready Photos

There is one thing that can take up a huge chunk of your photography time and is completely avoidable — having to take time to clean the getting ready room and gather details after your photographer has arrived. This might not seem like a big deal, but picture it: Your photographer has arrived to photograph your wedding day and before they can even begin to take photos of you preparing for your day, they have to take time to clean and track down all of your details. That’s time taken away from photos. That strains on your timeline, which is probably already very detailed and likely doesn’t have a lot of extra wiggle room (as is normal). The simplest things you can do to avoid this is to keep the room as tidy as possible while you and your bridesmaids are getting ready, to assign a couple of bridesmaids to clean the area before your photographer arrives, and to have your maid of honor gather all of your details in one place. This will allow your photographer to begin shooting right away, maximizing your photo time and creating a stress-free environment. Here are a couple of simple tips for your bridesmaids in charge of tidying-up to keep in mind:

  1. Pick up ALL trash and food you’re done with and throw it away
  2. Move all phones, chargers, and personal items into bags
  3. Move all bags, luggage, etc. to a closet — if there isn’t one, hide them

The next thing to consider is having your bridal details ready for your photographer. “Ready” means tags off and ready to be photographed. Ask your maid of honor to gather the following items and put them in one place. If you have a box or bag to place the items in, even better! Your photographer will thank you for not having to juggle a million small items. 🙂

  1. Wedding dress (again, tags off)
  2. Veil
  3. Shoes
  4. Jewelry (including engagement ring)
  5. Garter
  6. Perfume
  7. Hair piece
  8. 1 Bridesmaid dress
  9. Something borrowed, blue, old & new (if applicable)

Lastly, you want to think about personal items and details unique to the day that should be ready for your photographer as well. This can range from bridesmaids gifts, to a gift for your groom, and many other things. If you have any of these, your maid of honor can help gather them as well. Some examples:

  1. Gifts for Bridesmaids
  2. Gift for Groom
  3. Invitation Suite
  4. Loose florals (you can ask your florist for these for styling purposes)
  5. Paper products for your day (ceremony programs, etc.)

Keeping these things in mind will ensure the getting ready portion of your wedding day goes smoothly. Even more importantly, it will allow you to relax and enjoy your day instead of having to worry about gathering these things after your photographer has arrived, right when you’re likely in the middle of hair and makeup! I hope these tips prove helpful to you and I hope your wedding planning is coming along beautifully!
